We all love signing up to a new event!
The feeling of having something in the diary to aim at, typically several months away, and then it dawns on you that you need to have everything lined up...
We've taken a look at what you need to consider when signing up for a new running event. It's important to have the right gear and equipment to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience.
Running Shoes
Invest in a good pair of running shoes that provide adequate support and cushioning for your feet. There are many specialist running stores across the UK who can find the right shoe for your running style and foot type.
Moisture-Wicking Clothing
Opt for lightweight, breathable clothing made from moisture-wicking materials that help keep you dry and comfortable during the run. Look for shirts, shorts, and socks designed specifically for running. We're also going to recommend one of our Runr Hats or Visors which are perfect for any run!
Sports Bra
The feedback from the running community is that a well-fitting sports bra is crucial to provide proper support and reduce discomfort during the run!
Running Socks
Just like shoes, socks are important to get right as your feet are the most important part for running. Choose socks made from moisture-wicking materials to prevent blisters and keep your feet dry. Look for socks with padding in key areas for extra comfort.
Running Watch or App
Many of us like to record every run and this is the same for race day. Consider using a GPS running watch or a smartphone app that can track your distance, pace, and other important metrics. It helps you monitor your progress and stay motivated during training and the event.
Headphones
If you enjoy listening to music while running, invest in a pair of wireless headphones that are comfortable and designed for sports activities. We have created some playlists over on Spotify which are free to listen to and will help you stay on pace. One important thing to check is whether they are permitted during the event you are participating in.
Hydration Gear
Depending on the length of the event and your training runs, you may need a handheld water bottle, hydration belt, or a hydration pack to carry water or sports drinks to stay hydrated during the run. Some events offer water stations, but many runners are now chasing to be self sufficient when it comes to runs in order to reduce waste and the use of plastic bottles.
Race Number Magnets
It wouldn't be a true event without thinking about how you can attach your race number to your top, and that's where our most popular product comes in!
Our Runr Race Magnets feature 4 sets of magnets, one for each corner of your race number. They simply attach with one magnet under your top and the totter on the front. The strong magnets then hold the number on to your top and they don't budge!
Running Belt or Armband
If you need to carry small essentials like keys, energy gels, or your phone, consider a running belt or an armband that securely holds your items without bouncing around. Be sure to use this in your training runs and don't just get it out for the first time on race day!
One of our most important pieces of advice is to remember to train in the gear you plan to use during the event to ensure it fits well and is comfortable. No-one enjoys turning up on a race day and having issues during the race that they've not experiment before!
As with any event, check the specific rules and recommendations provided by the event organisers, as some events may have specific requirements or restrictions in place.
Overall, plan in advance and leave tie to enjoy the training and build to the big day!
