Iwan Thomas Signs Up As Runr Brand Ambassador
We're pleased to announce that we have teamed up with the UK's 400m record holder, Iwan Thomas, to help promote the link between running and better mental health.
The former European, Commonwealth & World Champion will work with us to raise awareness of mental health and promote our virtual run series, Miles for Mind, that has built a community of over 13,000 runners to date. Iwan will be taking part in a virtual meet and greet where he’ll be opening up about his own personal experience with mental health and sharing his top training tips with participants.
Iwan said: "What inspires me most about the Runr team is the community they have built around running. No matter how far along you are in your running journey, they offer a place for you to share your story, your goals, your achievements and your struggles - you can't underestimate the importance of that.
"As a professional athlete you go through a lot of highs and lows. Throughout my career I've faced injuries and setbacks that have impacted me physically, but it was my mental health that at times took the biggest hit. We need to keep encouraging conversation around mental health issues and providing a platform for people to talk about their personal experiences."
Why did we choose to work with Iwan?
Iwan is an athletics champion with an inspirational career. But he's also a family man, who just loves to run. He has long been an advocate of encouraging people to talk about their mental health and has been dedicated to highlighting its importance, which is why he's the perfect partner for us.
We're firm believers in the benefits running can bring to peoples' mental health. This belief was cemented when we asked the running community to share their own experiences - with over 200 of our brave members opening up about what running and mental health means to them.
As well as covering the important link between running and mental health, we're also in the process of producing a limited edition clothing range inspired by Iwan’s stellar career at the forefront of British athletics, so watch this space!
Being able to identify with one another and support each other is what being a Runr is all about. We're looking forward to working together over the next 12 months and it's an honour to welcome Iwan into the Runr community.
Craig, Matt & Martin.
